Directorate of Medical Education and Research controls and supervises the working of 42 institutions viz; Medical and Dental Colleges, Teaching Hospitals and Health Units under its purview to achieve and maintain academic standards.

Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) Mumbai Maharashtra supervises the Medical Education i.e. Under Graduate , Post Graduate and Super Specialisation. It also co-ordinates the Research activities in Fundamental Research, Applied Research & Operational Research in the Institutions under its control and through Out-reach Services. This enables the Government to improve Health Status of the people in the society.

The Director is the head of the Department and is assisted by The Joint Directors. The Superintendent of Nursing Services is in charge of Nursing Education and works under the Director. The Director Medical Education and Research is the competent authority for Common Entrance Test for admission to Health Science Courses (MH-CET).

Research is collaborated with national / international organizations and carried out at all institutions as a part of Postgraduate training. Independent research is also carried out by staff members of various disciplines. Research undertaken by staff members is presented in different national and international conferences and published in various journals.

Conferences and Academic Workshops are regularly conducted at various institutions. Details of these for reference can be made available by the institute if required.

DMER 2012 Entrance Exams

Entrance Examinations  conducted by Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER) Mumbai Maharashtra. Following Exams are conducted by DMER:

  • PGD-CET : PGD-CET stands for postgraduate dental common entrance test for postgraduate course in dentistry. The PGD-CET is normally conducted at Mumbai, Nagpur and Aurangabad. There is one paper of 1 and 1/2 hours duration containing 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs). The Common Entrance Test is of the standard of BDS Examinations and it covers all the subjects of BDS course.

  • PGM-CET : Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai conducts an entrance examination for admission to MD/MS/Diploma courses. The examination for year 2012 is called PGM CET and the procedure is called “Procedure for selection and admission to medical postgraduate courses at the State Government Medical Colleges / Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Medical Colleges / Tata Memorial Hospital and Bombay Hospital, Mumbai”.

  • PGP-CET : PGP CET 2012 i.e. PGP-CET / PGO-CET & PGASL-CET is the entrance examination administered by Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER) Maharashtra for admission into postgraduate courses in Physiotherapy (M.P.Th.), Occupational Therapy (M.O.Th.) & Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (M.A.S.L.P.) offered at the State Government Colleges / Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Colleges & Central Govt.

  • MHT-CET : The Common Entrance Test for the selection to all Health Science Courses, Engineering and Pharmacy degree courses in the State of Maharashtra is conducted by the Competent Authority appointed by The Government of Maharashtra. However, the selection process for each degree course in Health Sciences, Engineering and Pharmacy is different. For selection to Health Science degree courses, The Director, Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai is the Competent Authority. For selection to Engineering and Pharmacy Degree Courses, The Director, Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai will be the Competent Authority and the Authority for selection to BVSc & AH degree course is The Registrar, Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Science University, Nagpur.

  • MHSSET : MH SSET 2012 - Maharashtra Super Speciality Entrance Test is administered by Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER) Maharashtra. On the basis of performance in MH SSET, seats in Super Speciality courses i.e. DM / MCh are offered in different medical colleges / institutions in Maharashtra.  The candidates should have postgraduate degree with minimum 50% marks to apply for this entrance examination.
