On the 8th of January 1997, the Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya was officially initiated. It was founded as an educational institute for improving the research, development and teaching of Hindi so as to speed up its development as an international language. This university is situated next to the Wardha–Nagpur national highway near to hamlet town of Umari, is the place known as Panch –Teela.
Since its inception the Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya has been continually working towards bringing academic brilliance in the field of Hindi language and its promotion.
The university has schools for language, translation, literature, interpretation, and culture. Post graduate courses and research programmes are usually provided by the university. The university is mainly a residential university.
